A grand farewell to 2008!
The one week of cinema has changed the way i see me and the world around. it was just seven days but it felt like a life time. i was fortunate enough to be part of the FIPRESCI Press Mentor ship Programme which opened a whole new cinematic experience off screen Interacting with the Critics like Chris Fujiwara, Barbara Lorey, Pradeep Biswas and C.S. Venkiteswaran was an experience that i will cherish throughout my life.
I was fortunate enough to meet Mariana Rondon the director of "Postcards from Leningrad" and share a few thoughts with her. A movie which moved me to tears was Prassanna Vithanage's "Akashakusum" and i will always remember the moments after i came out of the theatre after the movie. I met Malini Foneseka, the actor who played the lead in the film. If there is anything more touching than the film it is the humble yet simple way in which two versatile persons received my compliments, the actor and the director.
I even got the chance to know how veteran festival enthusiast feel through the interviews with the film critic, teacher, documentary maker an a lover of films and film festivals - P.K.Renjith. The small chat i had with Beena Paul Venugopal, the artistic director of the festival was interesting. It was indeed a pleasure to hear her speak from her heart about her own baby.
in my mad rush to and from the theatres, in the snippets of information i got from my teachers, the snatches of valuable comments from my friends iffk was a perfect way to end an year and to begin a long wait for the next. . .
IFFK has more to offer than a great selection of film. It has a certain ambiance to it, in and around the festival venues – a kind of energy and vibrancy in the festival buffs who stand around immersed in a world of their own. As a first time delegate I am drinking in this experience still. waiting for the next one with much more hope
