What makes a movie a classic? Is it the way it draws us into its folds?
Yes, it can be!
However after seeing Satyajit Ray's magnum opus, Apu Trilogy, the thought that occurred to me is that, a classic becomes a classic when it ceases to be the property of the director and is internalised by the audience.Yes, it can be!
The genius of Ray lies in the fact that through his work he is trying to involve in a conversation with the audience . It is as if he is playing a game with us. Leaving us hints, certain pieces of puzzle which we try to solve rather unconsciously. nothing is closed in these movies, but there are many things that is left for us.
In a way Ray takes the audience into his stride and makes

Ray chronicles the life of Apu. It is a simple story of a man dogged by death. But in each part he opens out a whole new realm of humanity. The way a man lives is said cunningly by leaving many things unsaid. To cite instances , it will fill pages. But the simplicity, sensitivity and subtlety of Apu , be it in his relationships with his sister, his mother, his wife or his son, we are drawn to it, we float through it , immersed by the poetry that Ray creates.
He will live on come what may!
